Welcoming our new team member

BeOnBoard – a game-changing organisation that delivers on diversity – announces the appointment of Julz Davis as their new Communications and Relationship Manager.


Julz, the former Head of Marketing for one of Europe’s biggest world food companies – Wanis International Foods – is known in the city for his award-winning work. As Executive Director, Julz led on the successful return of St Paul’s Carnival for its 50th anniversary. He was also the Station Manager for Ujima Radio and founder of the pioneering Black & Green Ambassadors project. A graduate of Stepping Up, a region-wide positive action leadership program, Julz actively leads on shaping inclusive cultural outcomes as the Vice Chair of the Carnival Network South.    

On his appointment Julz said: “At this time more than any other I’m delighted to be taking on this role. Be it Covid 19, Black Lives Matter, Brexit or the Climate Emergency, disrupting to deliver on diversity matters now more than ever. Research consistently shows that diverse boards foster greater resilience, innovation and boosts revenue as well as talent acquisition and retention. In my new role I’ll be helping the region’s businesses adapt, embrace and scale-up their ambitions in order to meet the opportunities afforded by unlocking the power of diversity. As a business outcome, I’m particularly excited about changing the face of Boards in Bristol and beyond with a dynamic new generation of inclusive leaders from diverse backgrounds.”

Be On Board  is founded by CEO Kalpna Woolf, who added, “We are excited to be working with Julz. Over the coming months, he will be supporting us to deliver a number of exciting projects in support of the business recovery agenda on inclusive growth. This includes continuing to matchmake a high-calibre talent pool of board-ready candidates with board vacancies. Also, as we gear up for National Inclusion Week and National Trustee Week we will be launching an empowering new series of regular webinars, round-tables and Q&A panels. These will be with high-profile diversity heavyweights sharing inspiring and invaluable insights on the leadership mind-set.”

What’s on your agenda?

More immediately, BeOnBoard have launched a new survey ‘Embracing Board Diversity for Improved Business Outcomes’. Targeted at businesses in Bristol and the South West this survey is aimed at those with responsibility for, and influence over, or an active interest in the policies and practices that advance Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace. This survey will uncover and unpick the ambitions of the region’s organisations with respect to where board diversity sits as a business priority within their recovery plans.
