Being Better & Belonging at 1625 Independent People

There are two major drivers for diversity and inclusion on our Board at 1625 Independent People: Being Better and Belonging...

BEING BETTER

Diversity and inclusion helps the Board make better decisions, helps us stay relevant to the young people we serve, and to deliver public benefit. The Board needs to set a positive example and tone for us and they, alongside the executive, are responsible for setting inclusive values and culture.

BELONGING

We serve young people from all backgrounds who are homeless, threatened with homelessness or leaving care. Young people need to see that they belong in the organisation that provides services for them and that the organisation is inclusive and will support their sense of self and identity.

The Board and Exec set the strategy and culture of the organisation and as well as listening to young people’s expressed wishes and needs, it is important to have as wide a diversity of thought and voice to make sure that the strategy and culture is inclusive.
