Voluntary Panel members needed for School Appeals Panel

Help to make a difference to the families of Bristol by making decisions on where children go to school.

Bristol’s Independent Appeals Panel Service is recruiting panel members to take part in school admission appeals for secondary and primary schools in Bristol.

These panels ensure a fair and independent hearing for parents or carers who are not satisfied with the Admission Authority’s decision to refuse their child a place at a specific school.

You don’t need any formal qualifications but you need to be a good listener and communicator, with good decision making skills. The minimum age is 18, there is no upper age limit.

A diverse panel helps all see things from a different point of view so if you are a young adult, over 18, a member of the Black and Asian communities, LGBTQ+, a disabled person, we would welcome your participation.

How to Apply

You’ll need to:

  • provide two referees
  • we will arrange a DBS check
  • attend a 3 hour training session on the School Admission Appeals code
  • follow Bristol City Council’s values
  • sign a Confidentiality Agreement and Voluntary agreement
