The BeOnBoard team recently caught up with the CEO of Age UK South Gloucestershire who shared with us his commitment to embracing and embedding Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Here’s what Martin had to say:
“A commitment to ED&I is one of Age UK South Gloucestershire’s core values. It’s about much more than our legal responsibilities. Many older people in minority groups face prejudice and discrimination that has a negative impact on their lives. Every day, older people face being stereotyped, stigmatised and denigrated because of their age. This happens too often, both individually and collectively and when an older person is from a minority group, the impact is further exacerbated.
We believe that EDI is just as important for older people as it is for younger people, so we should celebrate diversity and help to overcome barriers to inclusion. This is the journey we are on. We want every older person to be able to be themselves, to be accorded equal respect, to have equal access to services and amenities and to have opportunities to be included and for their voice to be heard”.
Age UK South Gloucestershire is an independent charitable company committed to making South Gloucestershire a great place to grow old and helping older people live the best lives they can, free from discrimination through a caring, effective, enabling, influencing, innovative and inclusive approach.
The charity responds to more than 5,000 enquiries per year with a range of services including Activity Day Centres, Befriending, Foot Care, Improving Homes and Wellbeing, Information & Advice provision, specialist Benefits Advice and Volunteering opportunities.
